Artist's description
Original artwork by André Romijn. Oil sketch of a soldier on horseback after Anthony van Dyck.
This work by 17th century master Anthony Van Dyck is among three "very high value" paintings stolen from a University of Oxford art gallery 15 March 2020. A Soldier On Horseback by the Flemish artist, a leading court painter in England under King Charles I, dates from around 1616. I love the movement and the aspects of light, which makes this original painting very lively.
