Artist's description

Inspired by a visit to San Gimignano in Tuscany.  The Sala del Consiglio of the Palazzo Comunale exhibits a late thirteenth-century fresco cycle depicting tournaments of knights and hunting scenes dedicated to Charles of Anjou.

Those knights are really there, also the 'inscritta', inscribed symbols found on the inside walls of this ancient building. Most of this medieval 'artwork' are circular floral designs and other geometrical figures, probably intended to ward off evil.
